HEALDSBURG FIRE TO CONDUCT

MULTIPLE PRESCRIBED PILE BURNS:

HAPPENING TODAY!

pile burn

The Healdsburg Fire Department had previously scheduled multiple prescribed pile burns and chipping in the Ridge Open Space Preserve adjacent to the Parkland Farms neighborhood in March of this year.

Due to the wet weather, the prescribed pile burns and chipping have been rescheduled to TODAY, Friday, April 21, beginning at 8:00 a.m., and lasting into the evening.

The prescribed burns are part of the California Vegetation Treatment Program, and are being funded through the Coastal Conservancy Grant. The work will reduce the risk of wildfires in the area and promote the growth of native plants.

During the prescribed pile burns, smoke will be visible throughout the day. The Healdsburg Fire Department advises residents to keep windows and doors closed if you live in close proximity to the treatment area. The department assures residents that they will be taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of nearby homes and will have fire crews on scene for the entirety of the project.

"We are committed to keeping our community safe and reducing the risk of wildfires," said Lance Macdonald, Division Chief/Fire Marshal of the Healdsburg Fire Department. "These prescribed burns are an important part of our efforts to maintain a healthy ecosystem while also protecting our community."

Residents with questions or concerns about the prescribed burns are encouraged to contact the Healdsburg Fire Department for more information at (707) 431-3360.

2023 LOCAL HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN

COMMUNITY SURVEY

LHMP 2023

Did you know that having a local hazard mitigation plan (LHMP) can help reduce the impact of natural disasters in our community?

The City of Healdsburg is vulnerable to droughts, wildfires, flooding, landslides, earthquakes, and other natural disasters.

An LHMP identifies risks and vulnerabilities that area-specific natural disasters pose, serves as a long-term strategy for reducing identified risks and associated impacts to people and property, and provides a framework for future requests for Federal assistance

The 2023 LHMP update process will work to reassess risks outlined in the 2018 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan, and provide the City with the necessary tools to prioritize future actions for reducing those risks.

The LHMP planning process is a collaborative effort with multiple opportunities for public input, including a community workshop in June.  The first opportunity for public input is the LHMP survey in order to assess the community's hazard mitigation awareness, preparedness, and priorities.

For additional information and to take the survey in English or in Spanish, visit healdsburgemergency.org.
